Carolina Roots

Carolina Roots is Young Appalachian Musicians’ high school performing ensemble, bringing together dedicated student musicians in grades 9–12 who are ready to take the next step in their musical journey.

Growing musicians. Building leaders.
Carrying the music forward.

More than a band, Carolina Roots is an advanced learning, performance, and leadership experience. Through rehearsals, challenging music, live performances, travel, and collaboration, students continue developing as individual musicians while learning to perform as a strong ensemble.

Learning Through Performance .

Performance is an important part of the learning experience. Students receive instruction and feedback while developing musicianship, confidence, stage presence, teamwork, and professionalism. They learn to listen to one another, prepare independently, adapt, and bring their individual talents together on stage.

Ambassadors for YAM.

Carolina Roots members also serve as student ambassadors for YAM. At festivals, community gatherings, and special events, they represent the organization while sharing the old-time and bluegrass traditions of the Southern Appalachians with new audiences.

These experiences connect students with other musicians, community partners, and supporters while giving them a meaningful role in carrying this musical tradition forward.

They are the future of Southern Appalachian Traditions.
