The Young Appalachian Musicians (YAM) After School Music Program returns on September 28! We can't wait to welcome another year of young musicians as students in 3rd through 5th grade discover the joy of playing guitar, fiddle, banjo, and mandolin by ear. Over the course of 20 weeks, local musicians mentor students not only in traditional Appalachian music, but also in confidence, teamwork, perseverance, leadership, and community. Every lesson helps preserve the rich musical heritage of Southern Appalachia while creating lifelong friendships and inspiring the next generation of musicians.
The YAM After School Music Program is proud to partner with the following schools:
- Ambler Elementary School
- Central Academy of the Arts
- Clemson Elementary School
- Crosswell Elementary
- Dacusville Elementary School
- East End Elementary School
- Forest Acres Elementary School
- Hagood Elementary School
- Liberty Elementary School
- McKissick Academy
- Pickens Elementary School
- Six Mile Elementary School
If your child attends one of these schools and you'd like to learn more about the day the YAM After School Music Program meets at your school, instrument rentals, registration, scholarships, or other program details, please contact your school's YAM Program Director. If you're not sure who that is, or if you'd like additional information about the program, email us at connect@yamupstate.com.
We look forward to partnering with our schools, families, and communities to preserve the traditions of Southern Appalachian music while helping young people build confidence, character, friendships, and a lifelong love of making music together.
